A Conversation Taylor (Canvas_ART93)

Raheem:

This is Raheem Nelson of No Starving Artists and today I'm interviewing the very talented Taylor Williams on her paintings today. The first question I have for you is what inspires your art?

Taylor:

As I was growing up as a kid, I've always liked art. So, each thing you know, and I like different kinds of art, so I always try to draw. I just got more into painting, maybe three years ago, and I thought that I was okay. This is what I love to do. I've been building up so much as a bunch of artwork, so I'm like, why not try to sell it?

Raheem:

That's great. So what where do you want to go with your art?

Taylor:

I want to go big. I want to be known. I want to do different work. You know, practice different art pieces, to you know, just spread and be able to do this for somebody. Just so you know, there's a piece and I’m hoping to build up on it so that I can make good profit off of it and you know, do bigger and better things.

Raheem:

What's your process like when you're making art?

Taylor:

My process? It depends. If I'm doing a paint port, I have to have cups I had to have caustics to mix the paint with the medium. And I have to do that for each cup in I add silicone oil paint for so cells can come out of the paint. Um, but as far as my regular painting, it's paint brushes, the water and my hand and that's pretty much it. I've learned that me getting value back it's better because they can be expensive. The medium to do the paint pour is expensive. The end, even though it may be dry within 24 hours, it's still sticky and if it smudge it will smudge. So that can take three to seven days. Just completely dry. With no one messing it up.

Raheem:

Good, good. So I see that you've got your art in your living space. Which is great. When you come home and you wake up and you're around your art and everything. How does that make you feel?

Taylor:

Every time I feel happy? Because I've also realized that if I I can make my own art instead of buying somebody else's art from story. I can be my own creator.

Raheem:

That's really great. So what do you want? Your buyers and people that are interested in your work to know about you? What do you want them to know about your work and why you make it?

Taylor:

I would like them to know everybody's a creator, no matter if you quote unquote can't paint cuz everybody sees different things. And in different ways. I may see a donkey, you may see a horse who knows everybody sees it in different ways and just know that when I make my art I make it with confidence and try to make it beautiful and nice so that people will, you know, not just buy it and you know, place it anywhere but be like wow, that's actually nice. That's different. That's I like that piece.

Raheem:

Where would you want your artwork to be seen and that when I asked that it means like a gallery or like a museum like what's like your dream?

Taylor:

A gallery definitely. A museum is wonderful tool. I actually want to try to build up on my art to be able to have my own gallery and studio so people don't only come to the gallery, but they come to a studio where they can try to do something on their own or, or implement me if that's what they choose to do. So and I also believe art is an expression. So art is something that you can express yourself, so don't come in thinking, I gotta get this perfect. art is art expression.

Raheem:

It's great. So do you have any artists that you look up to and admire?

Taylor:

I don't really do too much research, really. I just want to be my best version as an artist everyday as I can be.

Raheem:

That's really great. Okay, what else? Oh, what do you do? During the days we don't feel inspired.

Taylor:

Lately, I've been feeling inspired every day the days that I don't know. One I either try to pray about it too. I go and you know, take a walk or listen to music or another thing that I like to do is write poetry if stuff, Paul good to my hand. I do it and then and sometimes I just look at seasons outside to try to get inspiration or go to YouTube.

Raheem:

Great. Yeah, great answers. So my last question is, how do people connect with you and find your work if they're interested in buying your art?

Taylor:

If they are interested in my go to my Instagram, which is canvas_ART93 and that's same from our Facebook.

Raheem:

Thank you for your time, Taylor, love your artwork. And thank you, thank you for the interview.

Taylor:

Thank you!
